Coronavirus Announcement

We are committed to supporting the health and safety of all our students, staff, and faculty members and this is to provide an update regarding ongoing changes in response to COVID-19. We want to operate with an abundance of caution but make sure we do not unnecessarily impede the academic progress of our students. Following the guidance of public health authorities we are taking the following proactive steps to minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19 to members of the NECI community:

Starting Monday, March 23rd all general education and academic-oriented classes will be moved to a fully online format for the remainder of the semester. The class schedule will remain unchanged for the upcoming week of March 16th. The online classes will utilize the Canvas platform and students will receive additional information from their instructors.

Kitchen lab class schedules will remain unchanged but you will be asked to work with us to ensure adherence to the highest level of safe food handling, quality and sanitation. The restaurant will also remain open with regular hours 7:30 AM-1:30 PM.

The campus and administrative offices will remain open with normal operating hours during this time. Classrooms and the library will also remain available for study by students and faculty individually or in small groups.

We are coordinating with VCFA for increased cleaning and sanitizing at the dorms as well as a focus on sanitizing and disinfecting all hard surfaces and frequently touched objects at the main campus and restaurant.

We urge all members of the campus community to continue to closely follow the recommendations of public health experts about how to limit COVID-19 transmission. This includes:

    - Washing your hands frequently for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and warm water;
    - Using alcohol-based hand sanitizers frequently;
    - Avoiding people who are sick, limiting personal contact, and covering your cough;
    - Disinfecting commonly used surfaces frequently;
    - Refraining from sharing drinking glasses, bottles, utensils, makeup, toothbrushes, vaping or other smoking devices, boxes of food,
      finger-foods, or anything else that could carry the virus from one person to another; and
    - Contacting your primary care provider and self-quarantining should you feel sick.

If you experience symptoms of respiratory illness (cough, shortness of breath) and/or fever—or if you come into contact with someone who meets this criteria—you should seek medical care immediately by contacting your primary health care provider, if you have one, before going to the emergency room. If you decide to go to the emergency room, call ahead and follow their instructions, which may include wearing a mask and not waiting in the waiting room.

Please reach out directly with any questions you may have. Thank you for all for working with us to keep the NECI community, and yourselves, safe and healthy during this challenging time.
